Every crest tells a story. The Auckland Samoa Rugby Football Union crest tells the story of a people: where they come from, what they value, and the ocean they crossed to get here. Look closely, and the whole identity of the union is there in the symbols.
The crest takes the form of a shield, rendered in Samoan blue. A shield means protection, heritage, and the union itself: a guardian of village rugby and of the community that gathers around it.
Five stars sit on the crest, the Southern Cross, taken directly from the Samoan flag. These are the navigational stars that guided our people across the moana, the great ocean voyages that brought Samoans to new shores. They speak to journey, guidance, and the connection between Auckland and Sāmoa.
The crest also carries the symbols of village life: the fale, the open Samoan house, for family and shelter; the palm, for the islands and home; the tanoa, the bowl of the ava ceremony, for hospitality and respect; and the ocean, the moana that both separates and connects Auckland to Sāmoa.
Across it all sits the motto: Tautua mo Sāmoa. Service for Sāmoa. The next time you see the crest on a jersey or a banner, you will know it is not just a logo. It is a map of who the union is, and where its people come from.
